SC IOM Athlete and Parent Code of Conduct
SportCheer Isle of Man (SC IOM) is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and positive environment where athletes can thrive, develop skills, and represent their clubs and island with pride. This Code of Conduct outlines the standards of behaviour expected from athletes and their parents/guardians at all times — during training, performances, competitions, travel, and online.
Athlete Code of Conduct
As an athlete representing SportCheer Isle of Man, I agree to uphold the following standards of conduct:
Respect and Sportsmanship
-
Treat teammates, coaches, officials, volunteers, and opponents with respect, fairness, and kindness.
-
Refrain from bullying, harassment, discrimination, or any behaviour that could harm others physically or emotionally.
-
Show good sportsmanship in victory and defeat.
Commitment and Effort
-
Attend training sessions, performances, and competitions on time and ready to participate.
-
Listen to and follow instructions from coaches and officials.
-
Work hard to improve skills and maintain a positive attitude towards learning and teamwork.
-
Take care of my uniform, equipment, and training facilities, helping to keep them safe, clean, and respectful for everyone.
-
Mobiles phones should not be used during training sessions.
Health, Safety, and Wellbeing
-
Report any injury, illness, or wellbeing concern to a coach or responsible adult before training begins, or immediately if it occurs during a session.
-
Any required medications must be labelled and given to the coach before each training session begins.
-
Avoid dangerous or reckless behaviour during training or performances.
-
Maintain good personal hygiene and fitness habits.
Representation and Conduct
-
Represent SportCheer Isle of Man and my club with pride and integrity, both in person and online.
-
Use social media responsibly, avoiding negative, disrespectful, or inappropriate posts about others, my team, or the sport.
-
Support a culture of inclusion, respect, and positivity.
Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct
As a parent or guardian of a SportCheer Isle of Man athlete, I agree to:
Support and Respect
-
Encourage my child to enjoy the sport, focus on effort and teamwork, and celebrate progress and enjoyment over results.
-
Respect the decisions of coaches, officials, and organisers.
-
Treat all athletes, coaches, and families with kindness, fairness, and respect.
-
Raise concerns through the appropriate SportCheer Isle of Man processes rather than discussing issues publicly or with other parents.
Positive Participation
-
Ensure my child arrives on time, properly equipped, and prepared for training or competition.
-
Communicate any absences, injuries, or concerns in good time.
-
Refrain from disruptive sideline behaviour — I will cheer positively and never shout instructions during routines or performances.
-
Understand the commitment required and ensure my child attends all required training sessions, performances, and competitions unless exceptional circumstances prevent attendance.
Safety and Welfare
-
Uphold SportCheer Isle of Man’s safeguarding and health & safety policies.
-
Report any concerns about welfare or safety to the Club Welfare Officer or SC IOM Safeguarding Lead.
-
Ensure transport, accommodation, and supervision arrangements are appropriate and in line with club and event policies.
Communication with Coaches
-
Coaches are happy to answer brief questions before or after training where appropriate. If a discussion requires more time or relates to an athlete's development, welfare or a concern, parents should arrange a suitable time to speak with the coach rather than delaying the end of a training session.
Online Behaviour
-
Use social media responsibly and ensure posts reflect positively on my child, their club, and SportCheer Isle of Man.
-
Never share or post images or videos of athletes without the appropriate consent.
-
Avoid engaging in or supporting online negativity, gossip, or criticism of others.
Breaches of the Code
Failure to follow this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action by the club or SportCheer Isle of Man. Depending on the nature and seriousness of the breach, this may include verbal or written warnings, temporary suspension from training or events, removal from teams, or termination of membership.
Acknowledgement
By participating in activities organised by SportCheer Isle of Man, I confirm that I have read, understood, and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct. I understand that failure to do so may result in disciplinary action in accordance with SportCheer Isle of Man policies.
